Johnny Oduya’s Early career
Chicago Blackhawks
On February 27, 2012, the Chicago Blackhawks traded for Oduya, exchanging him for a second- and third-round pick in 2013.
During the 2012–13 NHL lockout in October 2012, Oduya traveled to Bangkok, Thailand.
He played for the local Flying Farangs team in the 18th Annual “Land of Smiles” Hockey tournament.
He led his team to victory in the championship against Abu Dhabi, securing Bangkok’s first title in tournament history.
In June 2013, Oduya secured his first Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks.
They defeated the Boston Bruins in six games in the Finals. In Game 6, Oduya assisted on the Cup-winning goal scored by Dave Bolland.
His shot from the left point deflected off the stick of Michael Frolík.
Bolland, positioned in front of the Boston goal, pushed the deflected shot past Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask, clinching the Blackhawks their second Stanley Cup in four years.
On June 15, 2015, at the United Center in Chicago, Oduya earned his second Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
It marked the Blackhawks’ third Stanley Cup win in six years.
Dallas Stars
After spending four seasons with the Blackhawks, Oduya became a free agent and signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars on July 15, 2015.
Blackhawks teammate Patrick Sharp had also joined the Stars a few weeks earlier through a trade.
Personal life
Oduya’s father is Kenyan, and his mother is Swedish.
He has a younger brother named Fredrik Oduya, who was a former NHL draftee and played as an enforcer in the minor leagues until his passing.
